How to edit a live recurring membership

You can edit a recurring membership even after customers have subscribed. This is useful when you want to adjust the price, included hours, member prices, or booking rules without creating a new membership from scratch.

Open the membership editor

  1. Go to Products, then Memberships in the admin panel.
  2. Click the membership you want to change.
  3. Make your edits in the form.

What you can change

Most settings stay editable once a membership has active members, including:

  • Price (applies from the member's next renewal)
  • Included hours
  • Member prices
  • Booking rules and limits
  • 24/7 access
  • Name, sale dates, member limit, and other display settings

Benefit changes apply to current members right away. Their saved card is charged the new price on the next renewal. See How membership billing and renewals work for how renewals are scheduled.

What stays fixed

Two settings are locked once a recurring membership has members:

  • Billing cycle (monthly or yearly). Current members keep the cycle they signed up with. To offer a different cycle, create a new membership and move members across. See How to move a member from one membership to another.
  • Start date, once the membership has started or anyone has purchased it.

Review changes before you save

If the membership has active members, saving is a two-step process:

  1. Click Review changes instead of saving directly.
  2. On the review screen, check what changed. Changes that affect current members are listed separately from other edits (such as the membership name or sale dates).
  3. Tick the confirmation box to confirm you will notify your members and that the changes follow applicable law and good practice.
  4. Click Save changes.

You cannot save member-affecting changes without ticking this box. Alba records your confirmation in the audit log.

Notify members before you save

Changes to price, included hours, member prices, booking rules, or 24/7 access reach people who are already subscribed. Their next payment uses the new price, and their benefits update immediately.

Tell affected members before you save, especially for price increases. Alba does not email members automatically when you edit a membership.

Memberships without subscribers

If nobody has subscribed yet, you can save in one step with no review screen. The same locking rules still apply to the billing cycle and start date once members exist.

Deactivating a membership

You can still deactivate a membership that has members. This uses its own confirmation step and does not go through the member-notification review screen. See How can I cancel a membership.
