How to transfer account ownership

There can only be one Account Owner on an Alba account. If someone else needs to take that role, the current owner can transfer ownership to an Account Admin.

Where to find it

Go to Settings, then User roles.

Who can transfer ownership

Only the current Account Owner can do this. Account Admins and Location Admins cannot transfer ownership.

The person you transfer to must already be an Account Admin. Promote them first if they hold a different role.

How to transfer

  1. On the Account Admin you want to promote, open the menu and choose Edit role.
  2. Change Role to Account Owner.
  3. Read the warning: that person becomes the Account Owner, and you become an Account Admin. You lose owner access. The new owner can transfer ownership back to you later.
  4. Select Transfer ownership.

You should see a confirmation that ownership was transferred. Refresh the page if the Account Owner section still shows the old name.

What changes

  • The Account Admin becomes the Account Owner.
  • You become an Account Admin. You keep broad access across venues, but you no longer have owner-only rights.
  • There is still only one Account Owner.

Owner-only actions

Some steps are reserved for the Account Owner. Accepting merchant terms (for example during Manage demo / go live) is one of them. If you are not the owner, Alba shows that the Account Owner needs to review and accept the terms, instead of showing the Review & accept terms button.

You cannot edit or remove the Account Owner role from the User roles list. Ownership has to move via Transfer ownership.

For the full list of roles, see How to add users and manage their roles.
